Consider Us Your Content Quarterback
Living in Florida means that homeowners may suffer water and mold damage to their homes due to heavy rains, tropical storms, and especially hurricanes. There are also the unforeseen circumstances such as fire or water damage due to an accident, or old or faulty equipment. When found in this situation, people often feel the need to dispose of all of their personal belongings and start over, causing a much larger claim for insurance companies. Similarly, contractors tend to only focus on the structure of a home and pay little to no attention to contents, sometimes creating more loss for homeowners.
Homeowners can keep the contents of their home and have them restored to their original condition while the floors, walls, and other structural features of their home are being repaired. Not all is lost. When homeowners make Pack Out On The Go part of their restoration team, we serve as their Content Quarterback; we delicately restore the contents of a home to their previous condition, saving both our customers and their insurance companies money.
What is Content Restoration?
When the contents of a home are damaged because of fire, water, smoke, or mold, they can be restored to pre-damage condition by following a prescribed process to clean, restore, sanitize, and deodorize them. The items in a home that may be restored include collectibles, artwork, furniture, electronics and more.
The ultimate goal of content restoration by Pack Out On The Go is to return a homeowner's life back to normal as soon as possible after damage occurs; this also means they can live in their home again instead of a hotel or other temporary arrangement, which is typically another large expense for insurance companies.
The Content Restoration Process
The process used to restore belongings depends on the kind of damage that occurred, but there are five main components to the process:
As a Content Quarterback, our team will begin by evaluating each situation, including the separation of contents into those that are not damaged, those that are salvageable, and those which cannot be saved. This ensures that homeowners are only paying for what they need to be restored.
The pack out is the most important part of the content restoration process; the way in which personal things are handled will affect the success of restoration. When items are damaged, they are extremely fragile, so they must be handled with care to avoid further damage or damaging them beyond repair. Each item that undergoes content restoration must be removed from the home, allowing contractors to clean and restore the home while we restore its contents. Our Content Quarterbacks at Pack Out On The Go will inventory and photograph each item providing full digital inventory service, as well as carefully pack each item for transporting to the cleaning facility.
Additionally, with full digital inventory homeowners have online access to any item being stored after cleaning. Photo Inventory via Icat is available online as soon as the Pack Out is done, and before and after pictures of each item that needs restoration are taken.
For most homeowners, cleaning is the most important step of the restoration process. Our Content Quarterbacks have been trained and certified to use our special state-of-the-art equipment, so they handle a homeowner's things with care. We do our best to restore every item back to its former glory and in some cases, we have been able to restore items that homeowners thought were permanently ruined.
Our content restoration experts will determine the best techniques to treat your belongings depending on the source and extent of damage. We use a variety of tools and techniques to clean including cleaning solutions and materials that remove soot, odors, and bacteria from your things. Below are the main pieces of equipment that we use for cleaning:
- HEPA Vacuum - A High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) vacuum sucks things up like a traditional vacuum, but their strong filters are capable of trapping microparticles. True HEPA filters trap more than 99% of airborne particles that are larger than 0.3 microns.
- Hydroxyl Generator - Hydroxyls are molecules that occur naturally in the environment when the sun's ultraviolet rays react with water vapor. Mother Nature uses them to scrub and clean the environment, but hydroxyls do not occur indoors. A hydroxyl generator is a machine that creates hydroxyls that eliminate bacteria, mildew, mold, hazardous gases, and odors found indoors.
- Ultrasonic Cleaner - When an item is placed in an ultrasonic cleaner, the user adds a solution, and the machine agitates the liquid with bubbles to clean items. The agitation creates force that attacks contaminants such as dust, dirt, oil, algae, fungus, soot, wax, and more, that stick to metal, plastic, ceramic, and more. Ultrasonic cleaning also cleans in hard to reach places, cracks, and holes.
- Ozone Deodorization Chamber - Ozone chambers are containers that are sealed tight while ozone gas is released. Ozone is a highly unstable molecule that reacts easily with particles that it collides with on surfaces and in the air. Ozone removes odor by destroying the particles and bacteria that cause unpleasant smells.
Once items have been cleaned, sanitized, and deodorized, we deodorize them in the ozone chamber one final time. After this is completed, items are stored in our climate-controlled warehouse while they are being repaired and restored to their pre-damage state. Our secure storage facility has 24-hour video surveillance, so homeowners can rest assure that the contents of their home are safe.
When their restoration is complete we pack items with the same care as removing them from their home and prepare them for delivery. Our Content Quarterbacks will carefully unpack items and return them to their original place, or wherever the homeowner chooses. In the event that the home is not ready for contents to be returned, we will provide storage until that day arrives.
